Ann, I’ve been a fan for many many years, and read and re-read all of your book. My only complaint, there aren’t enough, but I’m glad to hear that there is another in the works, and wondering when it will be on the shelves.
I agree with Shelly, I would rather read one book BY YOU about Casey Anthony than 10 books or interviews by her, cuz then we’d know the truth about her, as much as anyone can. Everytime there is a really interesting story in the news, I find myself thinking “I sure wish our Ann would write this story”…..
10 authors could write about the same case, but only yours holds my interest to the last page, every single time!!
It would be neat to have a book, updating the characters in your earlier books, ie I didn’t know what was happening with Diane Downs, or her daughter
Keep up the great work, you are my favorite author!! Thanks for all the great reading!! You are soooo loved!!

  • Jo  On July 25, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Ann, I have been a fan of yours since I read Small Sacrifices. Please don’t let that article upset you. One of the things I appreciate in your books is the insight you give your readers into the minds of killers. I am always watching for a new one to come out. A previous fan asked about Diane Downs. She is still in prison of course. Don’t know about the youngest boy that was crippled by her bullet, but the girl that was adoped by the District Attorney got into drugs and now has a baby and living away from home. Very sad, Keep up the work Ann and forget that sleazy reporter with the hidden agenda. He should watch out, he could be the next one of her victims.

  • kathy mittge  On July 25, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I wish 1) there was an on-line index of stories/characters from the various books, and 2) that Ann could write faster!! I have them all, and have to pull out 25 + books to look through them for who is in which book. Love you, Ann!!

  • Connie  On July 25, 2011 at 7:22 pm

    Kate,

Thank you for your testimonial on Ann’s behalf. You certainly know about sociopaths. How sad there are people out there like that. You were able to tell them how it really is, and you have the facts. Your letter said it all.

  • Betti-WA  On July 25, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Kate Jewel–it was great seeing a post from you. I wrote a comment to the Seattle Weekly, too as did a lot of ARFs everywhere. Do take care and Ann you will come through this of that I’m sure. B

  • Anne  On July 25, 2011 at 5:14 pm

Ann, Is this someone who posted a review about your book? What a shame this person doesn’t see what a talented writer you are and how much we and sooo many others love reading your books. Once I start one, I cannot put it down. I have stayed up until all hours of the night to finish your books. How many other authors books can hold one’s interest like this? Not many.

  • bonita rose  On July 25, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Ann, You have not lost one ounce of credibility…..Liysa knows the truth, the public knows the truth, and God knows the truth. I know you do thorough research for every line you write, this book included. I have followed your reports of “the other side of life”…for years now, and I commend your courage to write only the truth. May you have a long and illustrious career……………..it’s well deserved! Liysa is obviously guilty, as deemed so through the court system. She is not exactly at Club Med at the moment.

  • Susan Hayes  On July 25, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Ann, I have been reading your books it seems like forever! I am always totally amazed at the crimes that are committed and how the ‘perps’ are caught! I will continue to read your books until you stop writing them (and I may just re-read them afterwards 😉 )

  • Marsha in the Low Country  On July 25, 2011 at 12:55 pm

Hi, ANN and all ARFs! I just saw in the news that an Appeals court appointed DNA expert in the Amanda Knox case (young American girl sentenced to jail in Italy for murder) has ruled that the DNA found on the murder weapon (knife) and the victim’s bra was greatly contaminated, which should help Knox’s case.

You had expressed an interest earlier in this case, ANN. Do you think you’ll look into it?

It’s so nice to read Kate Jewell defending “our” ANN!

    Best regards to all.

    • Fiona Fanatic  On July 26, 2011 at 8:54 am

HI Marsha, I saw that too. I hope the Italian justice system get their act together and free them both. I stick by my word that if there is not enough evidence to convict someone (such as in this case), i’d rather see them go free than convict someone using questionable/contaminated evidence.

Hello Ann, The article by Swart was so upsetting. I hope he reads this this web site. How can anyone be so unkind. You are the best author and a loving person. Your books always tell the truth. Hope he realizes he was incorrect and offers an amends. Take care, we all love you

  • Kate Jewell  On July 25, 2011 at 11:20 am

I posted this response to the Rick Swart’s obnoxious article on the Seattle Weekly website:

The Seattle Weekly has a responsibility to it’s readers to print the truth. Realizing that Ann Rule is a New York Time’s best-selling author with over 30 books still in publication, did you not doubt that Rick Swart’s story could have some errors in it that required further investigation? Did you not find it curious that Mr. Swart suddenly came upon this revelation of innocence from the “victim”, Liysa Northon? Had you taken the time, you would have discovered his personal bias. Yes, I blame Mr. Swart for not revealing his relationship with Liysa, but your publication was completely wrong to print such slanderous tripe about a well-know, well- respected and loved author. Ms. Rule has been a champion for women for her entire career and has saved countless lives by telling her victim’s stories. I know. I am one of them.

My name is Kate Jewell and if you’ve read Ann Rule’s MORTAL DANGER, you’ve read my story. I can confidently state that Ann did an extremely thorough job of investigating and a commendably accurate job of writing about my experience. I sincerely believe she has done the same with all her books.
Having lived with a sociopath who almost killed me, I know how manipulative, persuasive, controlling and believable they can be. I also know how far-fetched their reality often is and how warped their version of the truth. I am sure that if my ex, John Branden, were alive today and in prison for killing me or the woman he later murdered, he would have a web site decrying his innocence and insisting that HE was the one who was abused. He would also be adamant that everything that happened to him was MY fault.
We’ve all heard that “love is blind” and I believe love tainted Mr. Swart’s perception and journalistic ability. If Liysa is only half as manipulative and persuasive as John Branden was, Mr. Swart would not only WANT to believe her story but be required to for them to continue in a relationship. I’m sure his story has endeared him to his fiancée. So I would ask, is losing your personal and journalistic integrity, Mr. Swart, worth it? And to you, Seattle Weekly, is slandering a well-known, well-loved local author something you are proud of?

    • Rene Sundvall  On July 25, 2011 at 7:00 pm

WOW…Kate, that was a super response to this outrageous article! I have read your story (written by Ann), and I believe also, she does a just story of the Facts! I luved your reply to SW! I think they regret ever running that story!! Hope you’re doing well…

    • Fiona Fanatic  On July 26, 2011 at 8:47 am

Here here Kate. There’s no room for error when it comes to the printed word. That publication should be scrapped if it relies on sloppy, not to mention dangerous, editing.

Kate, you are one of a kind and may it ever be thus. You go, girl!

Ann: I love your books! You are the best true crime writer. When are you coming out with another book?

  • Marty Hatcher  On July 25, 2011 at 10:04 am

I was alerted to this story by Corey Mitchell. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. Those of us who are your fans know how meticulously you research your books. Be sure that we would never be swayed by this kind of unmerited attack.

    • Marty Hatcher  On July 25, 2011 at 10:11 am

I realized I didn’t say what story to which I am referring, but I think you know.

  • Ann Rule  On July 24, 2011 at 11:39 pm

    Dear Alison,

Just two days ago, I was telling a young woman–who works in the library–about what a wonderful author Betty MacDonald was. Sadly, she had never heard of her. I’ve read each of Betty’s books two or three times, and was so upset when she died as early as she did. She was one of the best humor writers I have ever read–and her books are still relevant today. I hope all the ARFs who don’t know about her will read at least one of her books. I guarantee that they won’t be able to stop at one! I have enjoyed Erma Bombeck too–another author who died too young, but Betty has a warmth that is delicious.

On the battle scene, someone has posted on Amazon (regarding Heart Full of Lies) that I am getting senile. I don’t think so, but isn’t that a lovely mean thing to say? I have my ideas about who is posting under several pseudonyms.
It’s not fun, but I don’t have time to perseverate (my friend Donna’s word) over it. Have to finish Don’t Look Behind You!

    All my best, gang!

    Ann

    • Alana  On July 25, 2011 at 6:45 am

Ann – as a wise man said “Don’t let the a***####s get you down. Unfortunately, as a very popular public figure you have to put up with the jealousy and vitriol of those who lack talent and/or appeal. I’m sure it’s frustrating to be ill used, even knowing the source is unworthy of even your frustration, and simply ignoring is always easier said than done. However, the fact that your books continue to sell (and sell well) is the best “in your face” you can deliver.

    • Fiona Fanatic  On July 25, 2011 at 8:23 am

Well, well, I wonder who that might be Ann…..mmmmmm…….it could be soooooo many people. Someone who has a lot of time on their hands………..oh, and a current vendetta against you……it could be anyone…….
Whatever, don’t pay any attention to her, ahem, I mean, them Ann. You rock our world!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Indiana Joan  On July 25, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Dear Ann, I just want you to know that you are the best! Who (whom??)ever posted that comment on Amazon has no idea what he or she is talking about! I know I am one of MANY, MANY (too many to ever know!!) who love your writing so much and read and reread all of your books! I am anxiously awaiting your next one…so again, I have gone back to one of my favorites, The Stranger Beside Me.
I just watched the news clip you have linked on your homepage of good news that Ronda Reynolds’ death being changed to undetermined. That is good news, hopefully it will then be changed to homicide and the investigation can move ahead to get the murderer. Ann, your book on her case is great and I can’t wait for you to be able to update it with good news that her killer is in jail and there will finally be justice for her. Keep up the great work…we all love you!

    • Alison Umpleby  On July 29, 2011 at 3:19 pm

      Dear Ann,
Thank you for your reply re: Betty MacDonald. You made my YEAR!!! You also answered my own question by your prompts to another ARF to go back and read older posts regarding C. Anthony and your opinions. That was very helpful. I love all your ARF and just wanted to thank you for finding such a user friendly forum. I am not that old, nor too computer challenged, but have gotten so frustrated by other sites. Leave it to you to find a site that’s a blog, and fan post all rolled into one. This might be old news to anyone else, but I am loving it. I might even get up the courage to download a pic of myself. Love you Ann, thanks again for acknowledging dear Betty and Erma! Ann,
We all knew the truth-and that’s what you wrote. I’m infuriated at the untruthful, unprofessional and sloppy reporting Seattle Weekly did. They should be sued. Seattle is proud of Ann Rule.

  • Ruth in Santa Maria  On July 24, 2011 at 5:56 pm

I too am an avid true crime reader and followed the Casey Anthony trial gavel to gavel. However, because she got away with murder, I’m not interested in the least at reading a book about her. If she gets the reported $1 Million interview I may watch that although I already know she’ll lie through her teeth. I would much rather Ann Rule write a book about the now development suicide/murder story coming out of Coronado, California. Ruth in Santa Maria

  • shelly boyle  On July 24, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Dear Ann, I have been reading true crime books for the past 40 years. It is still fascinating to me that the ordinary person that we see every day could be a sociopath and a murderer. This summer I have been totally enthralled by the Casey Anthony trial. Hollywood could not have found better characters than the people that testified in this trial. They were all interesting individuals.

I am writing you because I am really hoping that are writing a book about Caylee’s murder even though her mother was found not guilty. I think that Casey’s childhood and early teen years should give us some clues as to what she was capable of doing when she didn’t get her way.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful books.

  • Alison Umpleby  On July 24, 2011 at 3:39 pm

Ann, This is my second fan letter. The first one I wrote over 30 years ago to another famous Puget Sound author, Betty McDonald. No doubt you know of her, “The Egg and I” which started the “Ma and Pa Kettle” movies. She wrote the “The Plague and I” which was her autobiography regarding her battle with tuberculosis. Her book, “Onions in the Stew” is hilarious!!! She was my generation’s Erma Bombeck. Well dear lady, no words could express all the hours of enjoyment you have given my with all your books. I have read every one of them and just love how you honor the victims and all the men and women who bring their perpetrators to justice. You are a master. Hope you read this, because when I sent my first fan letter to Betty McDonald it was returned because she was deceased!!! LOL! God Bless you. Does something about a case truly have to “hook” you before you are able to invest your heart and soul (never mind the physical work) into writing about it? Because as much as everyone here in Florida would love someone like you to make sense of the Casey Anthony trial, I imagine with “Small Sacrifices” you may feel- “been there, done that”. Because of that book, we all KNOW THAT MOTHERS ARE CAPABLE OF MURDER!!! Well, thanks so much for what you have contributed to the world, you are much loved and appreciated. Alison from Florida

  • Norma Campbell  On July 24, 2011 at 1:41 pm

    Dear Ann
I have an amazing true life crime story that is certainly to be a best seller and could be a great movie. It involves prostitution, drugs ,prison inmates, and finally the brutal murder of a young single mother in the Carolinas in the late part of 1980. I know many many details and most of the people involved. All of my recolection of the details can very easily be researched-the detectives, the people involved and even her daughter are still around and all can be easily found and all details can be verified. This story is as good or better than any movie or book that I have ever read. It is sure to be a best seller. Please reply back because I have no idea where to begin!

  • Connie McMordie  On July 24, 2011 at 7:35 am

Looooove your writing, Ann. You far outshine any other author on true crime stories!

Where exactly would I go on your site to find updates on the characters in your books? I am currently interested in the characters in If You Really Loved Me, but would like to know how I can keep updated on all the other characters from your books.

Thank you for your help and for all the time you put into these crine stories. You are truly a gifted writer. You offer many hours of enjoyment for mmillions with the time and talent you put forth.
